Spring Training

Last night we babysat Christian at our home. We fed him (and he let us know when his formula wasn't warm enough), got him in his PJs and ready for bed, read to him and of course...gave him plenty of kisses. Though he was his typical happy-go-lucky self most of the night - he wasn't when it was time to go to bed. He was just fighting the aspect of falling asleep and missing anything that may be going on without him. He had finished his bottle and had a clean diaper, but wouldn't go to asleep.
After the tears and red face, we were desperate to try anything, so in the bag of tricks that Shannon packed for us was a Baby Einstein video. We popped it in, and it was like a miracle drug. All of sudden he stopped crying and started watching TV. It wasn't just that he was immediately quiet though, he actually watched the video. All of the music and colors put me to sleep, but when I awoke (30 minutes later), he was still wide awake in Steve's arms watching the darn thing. It was truly an amazing sight.

He finally succombed to his exhaustion and snored until his mommy and daddy came to get him. It was a late night, but a very productive one for Steve and me. We are getting better at mastering the right temperature for his bottles (thanks for letting us practice on you Christian), and tag-teaming the baby watching responsibility. And now we know that we have to register for at least one Baby Einstein video for our little one!

Project Nursery

It was a productive weekend for Steve and me. We finally nailed down the nursery decorations - bedding, furniture, rug, chair, light fixtures and paint! I must say that Steve deserves the credit though. We have been discussing our options for months, but I could not make a decision to save my life. Since Steve was sick of listening to me complain about the chore - he elected to help me make all of the decisions, and there was no hemming and hawing. He saw something that he liked and said that is it. Like always, I was a little hesitant, but I must admit that I feel a huge load has been lifted!! Now all we need to do is get it all ordered and set up, and have this baby!

Speaking of the baby, I was surprised Sunday night to see the little one kick strong enough for me to see my belly move! It was quite a thrill, but unfortunately Steve hasn't caught it yet. Everytime he came over and stared at my belly - the baby decided to rest. But as you would expect, as soon as he left - action again. I would assume that we will have plenty of opportunities to see more of this, but being that it is another first for us - we were excited. We are hoping to catch one of these moments on film in the coming weeks.

Our Crazy Saturday Nights

Last night Steve and I went over to Brian and Shannon's house for dinner. Reed and Sonya joined us, and the boys grilled the chuckers and pheasants that they shot over Christmas back in Peoria. Shannon and I decided to stick with chicken, instead of risking a broken tooth from the shot left in the birds. Christian was supposed to be taking a nap, but of course couldn't pass up the opportunity to socialize with his godfather and aunt and uncle. Brian and Shannon swear he cries, but you would never be able to tell that from these pictures.

Though the boys drank plenty of wine, our Saturday nights have certainly changed. Converstaions were dominated by talk of our favorite TV shows, our favorite method for watching those TV shows (TiVo, Moxi, etc.) and bedding for the nursery. My how things have changed...

23 Weeks....and counting!

Well, today I am 23 weeks, or officially beginning my 6th month. I tell ya, the weeks seem to be crawling right now. I had my monthly check-up this past week, and the doctor was happy to see me put on 8.5 lbs this past month! She said that at least I wasn't starving the baby or myself. I couldn't tell if that was said in a mean way or not. Anyway, baby Miz is definitely getting stronger. In fact, Steve finally felt the baby move for the first time Tuesday night. He was very excited, and so was I because now we can share in the excitement together. According to the books, the baby can now hear us so we are going to start interacting more with it so it recognizes our voices better. Steve has the Alabama fight song and some Allman Brothers in mind, but that hasn't been agreed upon yet.

Karen & Steve's Stock the Bar Shower

This past weekend we all got together to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of Karen Ziegler and Steve Smith. It was a "Stock the Bar" shower. Everyone had fun catching up, as it had been too long since the gang was all together. One of Steve's gifts was a bottle of Mad Dog, so most everyone enjoyed taking a sip for old time's sake. That is everyone...except me.

The party started at 7:00 with drinks and dinner, and I surprisingly lasted until 12:30, before making Miz come home with me. He has totally enjoyed having a designated driver for all social functions these past months. Lucky for him, he was able to sleep in the next morning. I, however, volunteered to hand out water to runners at the Mercedes Marathon. I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up to be there at 5:30 am in 20 degree weather! The unfortunate thing was, it wasn't just the cold weather, but when the runners took the drinks from me -they spilled half of it on me, making me even more cold. When I finally left at 8:00 to come home, it took me almost two hours to defrost my toes and fingers!

Joining Trinity United Methodist!

Well, after months of "shopping" churches, we finally feel like we found a home at Trinity United Methodist Church. Miz and I have been attending the church since summer, and joined a Sunday school class months ago. We love our new classmates (everyone is our age and in a similar family situation - married with kids, or expecting). After giving it much consideration, we decided to join Trinity. However, since Steve was never baptized as a child - he took that big step too! It was a happy occasion for all of the Mizerany family, and we were thrilled to have our family celebrate with us. Following the service, everyone went over to Louis and Michelle's house for a yummy lunch. Michelle and Myra cooked, and everyone else just shoveled it in!

Beth Griffith Visits Birmingham!

Beth Griffith and her daughter, Anna Catherine, flew into Birmingham on their way to Montgomery. I was lucky enough to have lunch with them and catch up on the Griffith family and share news of the Mizeranys. For those who don't know, Beth and I attended SMU together and were sorority sisters. In fact, we lived together for two years in Dallas. As expected, Beth looked great (just the same as she did 10 years ago) and her daughter was an angel. We snapped a quick photo before she headed off since it will probably be awhile before we get to visit again.

Cute Christian!

My new nephew, Christian,...now 5 months old, continues to amaze all of us with his charm. He smiles continously and is so good. My brother, Brian, brought him over for a quick visit so we snapped a couple of pictures. This one was too cute with his big grin with Daddy.

Smart Spencer

This weekend while I was laid up with the flu, my son, Spencer kept me company. We laid around in bed and slept...which was a dream come true for both of us. Steve entertained himself by making Spence "look smart" by putting his glasses on him. Of course he looked so cute, so we had to take a picture.
