The Owl Prowl and Pumpkin Patch

Pres coming into the finish line
Every Fall, Shades Cahaba holds their fun run for the students.  The Owl Prowl is a short .8 mile course that the kids run as fast as their little legs can carry them.  They break the race down by each grade so they can give awards to the first three girls and boys to cross the finish line for each grade.

Bennett ran by herself this year, and Steve ran with Preston. They all did great!

Preston's class picked a service project at the beginning of the school year.  They chose to raise funds for First Light Women's and Children's Shelter.  Miss Anderson found a pumpkin patch that was willing to donate pumpkins, so the children asked the student body to sponsor a pumpkin for $10.  They raised several thousand dollars that way.

The day of Owl Prowl, the pumpkin patch delivered all of the sponsored pumpkins, as well as additional ones that could be purchased.  By the end of the afternoon, through the sale of additional decorative pumpkins, the bake sale and sale of mums (that were also donated), the class raised over $4600 for the shelter!  It was a huge success!
